Operating in the San Francisco Bay Area
Golden Gate Ferry, an iconic high-speed ferry service operating across San Francisco Bay, engaged UES Marine to deliver a custom seating solution that addressed unique structural challenges while aligning with the brand’s aesthetic and compliance standards. Made in the USA, UES Marine’s solution met Buy America requirements, was Coast Guard approved, and included full installation support for the shipyard and the Golden Gate team.
The Challenge
-
The vessel’s deck featured significant camber, requiring a seating solution that could maintain a level passenger experience despite uneven floor surfaces.
-
Seating needed to reflect the Golden Gate Ferry identity through a custom upholstery scheme.
-
The project required seamless collaboration between multiple stakeholders, including shipyard personnel, designers, and suppliers—while adhering to tight deadlines and regulatory requirements.
The Solution
- UES Marine engineered longer, custom seat legs to compensate for the vessel’s cambered deck, ensuring a level and safe seating installation across all passenger areas.
- A bespoke upholstery colour scheme was developed in close consultation with the Golden Gate Ferry design team and UES Marine’s materials suppliers, resulting in a distinctive, brand-consistent interior.
- The seating was manufactured in Washington, guaranteeing Buy America compliance and full alignment with Coast Guard regulations for high-speed craft.
- UES Marine provided full installation services at the shipyard, ensuring efficient fit-out and reducing the workload for both the Golden Gate Ferry team and vessel builders.
The Outcome
- Golden Gate Ferry passengers now enjoy a level, comfortable seating experience regardless of the vessel’s complex deck layout.
- The final upholstery design strengthens brand recognition and delivers a clean, modern look aligned with the operator’s premium service reputation.
- UES Marine’s install team ensured the seating was delivered and fitted on schedule, supporting a smooth launch with no post-install adjustments required.
- The solution reinforced UES Marine’s reputation for adaptive engineering, regulatory compliance, and successful collaboration with America’s leading ferry operators.
From concept to installation, this project reflects what we do best—custom-engineered seating made in America, built for high-speed performance and everyday reliability.
